Salary: £38,437 - £41,379 (Scale PO6 – PO9) Please note that this salary includes a £5,000 Market Rate Supplement (Non-contractual)

The job role
Rochford District is a busy and ambitious local authority with a varied historic environment which is experiencing sustained growth in housing and employment, including strategic development around the local airport. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planner to influence and shape development in the District and to support the Council in achieving its priorities to deliver high quality developments. The post is within a friendly, supportive and hard working team which is looking to maintain excellent performance and high quality service delivery by recruiting to this post on a permanent basis.
We are looking for dynamic, positive and hardworking individuals, with excellent communication skills and extensive relevant experience of dealing with major and complex applications. You should be able to demonstrate excellent ability to work on your own initiative and a commitment to achieve high levels of performance and customer service. You will have detailed knowledge of Development Management planning and a full understanding of the processes and complexities of delivering the statutory planning service in a local planning authority.
Key parts of the role include the requirement to assess, write and present recommendations relating to major applications to Development Committee. The ability to negotiate effectively with applicants and their agents is also essential to the role.
You must be able to work creatively and constructively with the management team, applicants, the local community and other stakeholders to ensure that the Council’s planning priorities are delivered.
